Hard to control heat in metal cutting? See how high-pressure screw pumps perform.
During metal cutting, the temperature between the cutting tool and workpiece (machining zone) rises rapidly, generating substantial cutting heat. Such heat affects chip formation, resulting in tool wear and compromised workpiece surface finish. These issues impair production efficiency, equipment service life and workpiece quality. Therefore, heat control is essential.
The conventional cooling method applies low-pressure external cooling by spraying coolant toward the machining zone. However, chips act as a barrier to the coolant during operation, preventing the coolant from reaching the actual contact area between the tool and workpiece and greatly weakening cooling performance. Meanwhile, high temperatures cause the coolant to form a “vapor film” in the machining zone, further deteriorating cooling effectiveness. Without effective cooling, long cutting paths are generated, producing long and thick chips that wrap around the tool. This tends to damage cutting tools, workpiece quality and probes, raising operational costs.
To deliver coolant to the machining zone and remove heat, coolant can be pressurized to a specific level and precisely injected into the machining zone through internal-cooled tools to achieve cooling. With accurately directed high-pressure delivery at 7 MPa, the cutting fluid can target the machining zone precisely and penetrate and eliminate the vapor film. When heat is removed in a timely manner, a shorter shear zone forms during machining. Chips curl and break naturally, reducing tool damage, boosting machining efficiency and minimizing workpiece defects. In the long run, this helps cut costs and improve productivity.

The A3MT series high-pressure screw pumps manufactured by AIKE feature a maximum outlet pressure of 15 MPa. As a three-screw pump, its structural characteristics enable consistent and stable coolant output during operation, which is critically important for machine tool machining, especially precision machining.
Aike specializes in the design, R&D, production and sales of screw pumps. Currently, the A3MT series high-pressure screw pumps have been widely adopted in the market and are well-received by precision manufacturers across industries including automotive components, aerospace, medical products, wind turbines and hydraulic valves.
